Capacity_building1In order to implement paragraph 21 of General Assembly resolution A/RES/64/236, which "encourages the active participation of all major groups" at all stages of the preparatory process, the Rio+20 Secretariat, in partnership with the Stakeholder Forum, and with the support of the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment, is offering a series of capacity building workshops.

On November 30, in collaboration with the UNECE, Stakeholder Forum presented a capacity-building training for representatives of Major Groups attending the UNECE Regional Preparatory Meeting for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development. Don Edwards, an International Advisory Board member of Stakeholder Forum and veteran NGO sustainable development advocate, conducted the three part training. The training “All Roads Lead to Rio” addressed the following subjects:  Part 1-“All Roads Lead to Rio", Part 2-“The Rio+20 Process and Framework” and Part 3-“The Rio+20 Agenda”.

On Thursday 5th May 2011, Stakeholder Forum is holding a panel discussion about building the capacity of government decision‐makers and civil society to make sound judgments about inter‐related social, economic and environmental sustainability issues.
