The first preparatory meeting for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, or Rio+20 Earth Summit, will take place from 17th – 19th May at the UN in New York.

'PrepCom 1' will discuss the substantive themes of the Conference and pending procedural matters, and will also elect the Bureau for the Summit.

Stakeholder Forum, UN NGLS and other partners, to be announced, will bring together a diversity of stakeholders at a conference to discuss Earth Summit 2012 on 15th May in New York. Standing before the United Nations General Assembly one day after the High Level Event on Climate Change, the President of Brazil proposed convening in 2012 a World Summit on the environment, twenty years after the landmark UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio in 1992.
