{"id":102,"date":"2009-02-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/earthsummit2012.stakeholderforum.org\/2009\/02\/01\/ny-informal-dinner-3\/"},"modified":"2009-02-01T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-01T00:00:00","slug":"ny-informal-dinner-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/earthsummit2012.stakeholderforum.org\/index.php\/ny-informal-dinner-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholder Forum hosts informal government dinner on Earth Summit 2012 in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>February 2009: <\/strong>During the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/esa\/dsd\/resources\/res_pdfs\/csd-17-ipm\/26february\/PM\/Workers_and_Trade_Unions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intergovernmental Preparatory Meeting for the 17<sup>th<\/sup> session of the Commission on Sustainable Development<\/a>, Stakeholder Forum convened a number of governments from North and South to informally discuss the possibility of an Earth Summit in 2012 and\u00a0 to focus on the kinds of issues such a Summit could address.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This meeting was attended by 23 individuals from seventeen national governments, three non-governmental organisations, one independent consultancy and one university, all talking in their personal capacity under the Chatham House Rule.\u00a0 Representatives from the following governments attended the informal dinner: Austria, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Malaysia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA. Discussion focussed on a number of areas, including Global Environmental Governance, common but differentiated responsibility, financial implications of a Summit, and how to avoid \u2018Summit fatigue\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Though many governments stated clearly that they had not yet developed positions, the meeting provided an opportunity to share and exchange ideas on the role a Summit could possibly play.
