The paper emphasises the need to promote discussion on the implementation of the Rio Principles outlined in the Rio Declaration from the UN Conference on Environment and Development in 1992.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" \/>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among other recommendations, the paper calls for the Summit to further debate international environmental governance and discuss how to improve \u2018cooperation and coordination between international institutions and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Multilateral_Environmental_Agreement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MEA<\/a>s\u2019.\u00a0 The paper also emphasises the importance of reviewing and monitoring the implementation of Agenda 21, the \u2018blueprint for sustainable development in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century\u2019 which was agreed at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The paper highlights the need for any Summit to address sustainable development as a holistic process, taking into account economic and social development in addition to focussing on the environmental component.
