{"id":740,"date":"2011-09-26T09:07:16","date_gmt":"2011-09-26T09:07:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/earthsummit2012.stakeholderforum.org\/2011\/09\/26\/trade-unions-met-with-the-spanish-minister-of-environment-and-the-director-of-unep-to-discuss-green-economy-and-just-transition\/"},"modified":"2011-09-26T09:07:16","modified_gmt":"2011-09-26T09:07:16","slug":"trade-unions-met-with-the-spanish-minister-of-environment-and-the-director-of-unep-to-discuss-green-economy-and-just-transition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/earthsummit2012.stakeholderforum.org\/index.php\/trade-unions-met-with-the-spanish-minister-of-environment-and-the-director-of-unep-to-discuss-green-economy-and-just-transition\/","title":{"rendered":"Trade unions met with the Spanish Minister of Environment and the Director of UNEP to discuss green economy and just transition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The meeting took place in July in the Spanish Ministry of Environment  within the presidency of the Administrative Council of the United  Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), currently a responsibility held by  the Minister of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Rosa Aguilar.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Minister and UNEP\u00b4s Director, Achim Steiner, also  participating in the meeting was a trade union delegation composed by  Judith Kirton-Darling, Confederal Secretary of the European Trade Union  Confederation (ETUC) and in charge of environment issues, Ignacio  Fern\u00e1ndez Toxo, Gerenal Secretary of CCOO and the current president of  the ETUC, C\u00e1ndido M\u00e9ndez, General Secretary of UGT, Laura Mart\u00edn  Murillo, Director of Sustainlabour and Joaqu\u00edn Nieto, Director of ILO\u00b4s  office in Spain. <\/p>\n<p>A change in the model of production toward a green, low-carbon  economy is necessary as is that it includes workers\u00b4 participation.  Trade unions are convinced of the need to promote this change and for  it, it is fundamental that there be concrete commitments in terms of the  promotion of green jobs and that this is done through a just transition  for populations that are most vulnerable.
