{"id":894,"date":"2011-12-09T10:58:14","date_gmt":"2011-12-09T10:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/earthsummit2012.stakeholderforum.org\/2011\/12\/09\/trade-issues-on-the-backburner-in-final-regional-prep-meeting-for-rio20\/"},"modified":"2011-12-09T10:58:14","modified_gmt":"2011-12-09T10:58:14","slug":"trade-issues-on-the-backburner-in-final-regional-prep-meeting-for-rio20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/earthsummit2012.stakeholderforum.org\/index.php\/trade-issues-on-the-backburner-in-final-regional-prep-meeting-for-rio20\/","title":{"rendered":"Trade Issues on the Backburner in Final Regional Prep Meeting for Rio+20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final regional meeting in preparation for next June\u2019s Rio+20  Conference, held last week in Geneva, saw participants largely skirt  around trade issues, despite previous regional meetings having seen  significant debate surrounding the areas of green trade protectionism  and the definition of a \u2018green economy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The UN Economic Commission for Europe\u2019s (UNECE) Regional Preparatory  Meeting was the fifth in a series of regional gatherings being held in  preparation for the 20-22 June 2012 Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable  Development. <\/p>\n<p>The ECE region encompasses North America, Europe, Russia, and Central Asia. <\/p>\n<p>The Rio+20 Conference marks the twentieth anniversary of the 1992  United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
