EC priorities for the Rio+20 conference labelled as problematic and vague – Eurostep
As a first step towards a joint EU strategy to be presented in November 2011, the European Commission (EC) unveiled its priorities for the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) that is to focus on the concept of green economy in the context of sustainability and poverty eradication and how to strengthen sustainable development. Civil society organisations and institutes have however declared the communication as both problematic and vague in content.

On June 20st, the EC published its Communication Rio+20: towards the green economy and better governance “as a basis for further dialogue with EU institutions, civil society, business and countries” . It contains statements that address some pressing issues with concrete ideas, whilst other areas remain remarkably stagnant.
