UN official looks to US leadership at next year’s sustainable development summit
Sha Zukang, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs who will be the head of next year’s United Nations world summit on sustainable development seeks leadership from the United States.
In a speech at the National Press Club in Washington, Sha Zukang discussed how the United States government has made major contributions to the cause of sustainable development. Mr Sha Zukang said he would be asking for many contributions from the US in regards to the 2012 UN sustainable development conference.
Sha Zukang stated that “Right now humanity stands at a crossroads. Sustainable development is not an option. It is the only path that allows all of humanity to share a decent life on this, one planet.”
Amongst many other contributions Mr Sha is hopeful for the US to contribute in terms of socially responsible business opportunities and philanthropic contributions to sustainable development.
