Vice-president in Brazil to attend sustainable development summit

Rio de Janeiro – The Vice-president of the Republic, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, arrived on Tuesday afternoon in Brazil, where he will attend the UN Summit on Sustainable Development dubbed “Rio+20”.

Fernando da Piedade will represent the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the meeting set for 20-22 June in Rio de Janeiro and aimed essentially to discuss themes such as green economy in sustainable development context and eradication of poverty” and “institutional structure for development”.

The Vice-president of Angola will also address in the first day of the forum where he is expected to highlight the policies, sustainable development and fighting against poverty, rate of implementation of the Millennium Development Goals in the country, as well as the position of Angola regarding the world environmental problems.

The meeting aims for Environmental Networks of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) to discuss and create strategies for the preservation of the environment.

At this time, the meeting of experts from various countries of the world is taking place in Brazil and it precedes the UN Summit on Sustainable Development Rio+20.

The event will reflect on programmes of forest resettlement, wastes management, adaptation plan to climate changes at the level of CPLP’s Environmental Networks.

Rio+20 conference will be attended by heads of state and government.

To prepare the conference, an Angolan delegation of the Ministry of Environment, led by its incumbent minister, Fátima Jardim, is already in Brazil.
