Towards the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference: a workshop on the Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus

At the 64^th Annual United Nations Department for Public Information (UN DPI)/NGO Conference, Sustainable Societies – Responsive Citizens, 3-5^th September, a workshop on the Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus will be hosted by the German Government and Stakeholder Forum, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to input into the preparatory process of the ‘Bonn2011 Conference: Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus, Solutions for  a Green Economy’, 16-18 November.

The Bonn 2011 Nexus conference pursues three main objectives:

–          To develop policy recommendations based on multi-stakeholder consultations and taking a nexus perspective;

–          to position the water, energy and food security nexus perspective as an important dimension within the ‘Rio2012’ process as well as the Green Economy and Green Growth concepts, and;

–          to launch concrete initiatives to address the water, energy, food security nexus in a coherent and sustainable way.

The workshop at the UN DPI/NGO Conference will take place on the first day of the conference, 3^rd September, at 2:30-4:00pm, bringing stakeholders together to discuss the nexus perspective and integrated solutions for a Green Economy.

Speakers who will introduce and unpack the nexus perspective include Mr. Albert Butare, CEO of Fatracs Co Limited and former Minister of Energy and Water of the Republic of Rwanda, and Mr. Johan Kuylenstierna, Centre Director, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).

The workshop will be co-moderated by Thomas Stratenwerth, German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and Franz Marré, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Taking place in Bonn at the Maritim Hotel, the event is open to stakeholders registered and accredited for the 64^th Annual UN DPI/NGO conference (3^rd-5^th September).  Following this event, a synthesis document will be made available to feed into the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference preparations. It will also be distributed amongst NGO networks.
