Copa-Cogeca Declaration for Rio+20

The European Farmers European Agri-Cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca) has published a declaration supporting Rio+20. Copa-Cogeca believes green growth is central to improve sustainable development.

Excerpt from the Declaration:

1. European farmers, forest producers and their cooperatives manage over three-quarters of the land in th EU and ensure food security for 500 million consumers by maintaining production capacity through the EU.

2. In the EU-27, nearly 28 million people are employed on farms, with over 40 million working in the agri-food chain as a whole. Besides generating green jobs, European agriculture and forest management ensure an attractive countryside and a diverse landscape for rural inhabitants, visitors and tourists.
