‘New Foundations for the Future’ – Stakeholder Forum and UN NGLS Conference on Rio+20
On 15th May 2010 Stakeholder Forum brought together hundreds of stakeholders at a Conference on Rio+20 held at the New School in New York. The Conference, entitled ‘New Foundations for the Future: Looking ahead to Earth Summit 2012‘ was jointly organized by Stakeholder Forum and the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN NGLS).
The objective of the conference was to bring together stakeholders from across government, civil society and UN agencies to discuss the themes of the Summit in an informal setting prior to the first Preparatory Meeting for Earth Summit 2012 from 15th – 17th May.
The event was a great success, generating lively and interactive discussion and debate. The conference was opened by Ambassador Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado of Brazil and was addressed by a number of high level speakers, including Achim Steiner, Executive Director, UNEP; Ashok Khosla, Development Alternatives; Tariq Banuri, Director, UN-DESA/Division for Sustainable Development; Martin Khor, Executive Director, South Centre and many more.
