Sharing Green Economy Best Practices Towards Rio+20

The Ministry of the Environment of Poland is organising a high-level conference aimed at consultation between EU member states and key countries in the process of preparing for the Rio+20 conference in 2012, presentation of the best examples of green initiatives aimed at presenting each partner’s position, and consultation aimed at bringing positions closer and supporting UNDESA in preparing the ambitious result of the RIO+20 conference.
One of the two key topics for the conference is green economy in the context of reducing poverty,and for this reason the meeting in Warsaw will also serve as consideration for the practical examples of the way in which this objective can be achieved. Green economy is a tool for achieving sustainable development. The means to achieve this may be diverse. The conference in Warsaw is to be a forum for exchange of ideas and experiences in national, regional and local areas concerning the best examples of applying green economy, serving as the basis for developing specific solutions which may be adopted during the Rio+20 conference.
The main feature will be presentation of the EU Environment Council’s report of 10 October 2011 and a discussion of practical examples presented by 10 member states (the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Great Britain) and 10 key countries within the RIO+20 process (Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, the USA and representatives of the AOSIS and ALBA groups), whose presentations may indicate political directions and create fields of discussion concerning the means to achieve a green economy and support the RIO+20 process.
