Córdoba Dialogue Citizenship for a Sustainable Planet

International Meeting with Civil Society

Córdoba 17-18 October 2011

On October 17-18, UNEP, together with the Spanish Ministry for Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs will organise a dialogue with civil society – the “Córdoba Dialogue”.

This is an international event open to all, especially oriented to NGOs, trade unions, civil groups working for gender equality and for a fairer and more cooperative world. There will be a special emphasis on civil society from developing countries. This important event seeks to strengthen the participation of this sector in developing countries as a cooperation mechanism reinforcing UNEP’s role in the preparatory process toward UNCSD 2012 and ultimately aiming to ensure that the outcome of this conference is inclusive.

The following key themes have been initially selected for the meeting:

  • Green jobs as an opportunity

  • The role of Cities

  • Green economy and women

  • Food security

In principle, the duration of the meeting will be one and a half days. The meeting will likely start off with a conference session where the main challenges, connected with the themes above, will be presented. This will be followed by four parallel break-out sessions each devoted to one theme as listed above.

The meeting will be conducted in English and Spanish with simultaneous interpretation. Further information (agenda, location, etc.) will be put on UNEP’s website as it becomes available (www.unep.org/civil-society).
