Rio Declaration

Produced at the Earth Summit in 1992 was the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development which set out 27 guiding principles for sustainable development throughout the world. It states that the only way to have any form of long term growth is to ensure that it is grounded in the context of environmental protection. For example principle 15 advocates the use of the Precautionary Principle.
