The 1971 seminar held in Founex, Switzerland and subsequent Founex report played a critical role in laying the ground work for the 1972 Stockholm conference. Founex was the first paper to identify key environment-development objectives and relationships, and contributed to locating and bridging the policy and conceptual differences that separated developed and developing countries.
